I spent the last two days at Google’s NYC office with the Google+ developer relations team learning about new platform features. The highlight: sign-in with Google+ to unlock social actions in your app and grow your business.
Some interesting data about G+ that caught my attention:
- 500mm users (projected to hit 1b by Summer, or sooner)
- 135m active users
- 12+ mins length of stay in the stream
Some crazy stats from a demand aggregation product (search) entering the social world (discovery). What’s more amazing than these numbers is that the 135m active users are seeing notifications and signals in their search results, thereby influencing purchase intent. For social commerce apps, think about this for a second. Your customers most likely have a Gmail account (…at some point, I can imagine Google’s approach to identity shifts to your G+ account) and are running queries for products, local services, flights, etc.
135m customers are signaling in the Google search stream, and Google is helping your users start the purchase funnel. From a social product perspective, we’ve never had this type of opportunity before. G+ is offering us the chance to build on top of the largest demand-side platform on the web.
